COLUMBUS COUNCIL DISTRICTS
Section 3-100 of the Columbus, Georgia Code of Ordinances splits the city into eight geographic council districts, plus two “at large” districts, for a total of ten.
While Districts 1 through 8 only represent constituents that live within their corresponding geographic boundaries, Districts 9 and 10 represent the entire city as a whole and everyone that lives in it.
DISTRICT 1
Located in the heart-and-center of Columbus, District 1 runs from Milgen Road on its north down to St. Mary’s Road on its south, capped by Buena Vista Road & Floyd Road on the east, and Rigdon Road, Macon Road, and Primrose Road on the west. To find out if you live in District 1, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 2
In true Columbus style, District 2 is of course not adjacent to District 1 at all, but is rather located in the northwest corner of the city. District 2 is capped on the north by the city limits, which roughly run along Almond Road in Fortson, Ga. from its eastern limit of Rt. 27 all the way to the Chattahoochee River. District 2 is roughly capped on its southern end by Bradley Park Drive and Rt. 80/ J.R. Allen Parkway. To find out if you live in District 2, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 3
In keeping with the theme, District 3 isn’t adjacent to its numerical predecessor either. District 3 encompasses the south-central section of the city. Its northern end is capped by 17th Street and runs from Rigdon Road to Illges Road and St. Mary’s Road on its east, to Brown Avenue and North Lumpkin Road on its west. The district is capped on its southern end by the city limits adjacent to Fort Moore (Benning). To find out if you live in District 3, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 4
District 4 lies on the city’s southeast corner. The district runs from Schatulga Road and Jefferson Drive on its eastern boundaries along the city’s edge, to Floyd Road and Woodruff Farm Road on its west. It runs from the intersection of Macon Road and Schatulga Road down to the city limits. To find out if you live in District 4, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 5
District 5 sits in the center of the city north of Cooper Creek Park. Its jagged borders enclose the Columbus Airport, Columbus State University, and the Highland Park area. To find out if you live in District 5, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 6
District 6 extends out through the city’s far northeast limits, generally following Macon Road from the Flat Rock area to its eastern border with Box Springs. It is capped on the north by the county line and on the south/southeast roughly by Chattsworth Road and 10th Armored Division Road on Fort Moore (Benning). To find out if you live in District 6, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 7
District 7 lies on the southwest corner of the city. It runs from the City Village area, through downtown, and into Oakland Park. It is capped on the north by 32nd Street & 35th Street, the west by 17th Avenue and Brown Avenue into N. Lumpkin Road, the east by the Chattahoochee River, and the south by Fort Benning Road & Upatoi Creek. To find out if you live in District 7, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 8
District 8 lies between District 7 and District 2, on the west-central end of the city between the Columbus Airport and the Chattahoochee River. It is capped on the north by Whittlesey Boulevard and Bradley Park Drive, on the east by the Columbus Airport, on the west by the Chattahoochee river, and on the south by Rt. 80/J.R. Allen Parkway. To find out if you live in District 8, you can view the city’s zoomable map here.
DISTRICT 9
District 9 is an “at large” post and includes the entirety of Columbus. Issues pertaining to the city as a whole that are not limited to the bounds of a single council district should be brought to the attention of an at-large councilor.
DISTRICT 10
District 10 is also an “at large” post and includes the entirety of Columbus. Issues pertaining to the city as a whole that are not limited to the bounds of a single council district should be brought to the attention of an at-large councilor.
Facts are stubborn things — and we’ll keep publishing them, whether city officials like them or not.
