The Columbus Airport has partnered with the Columbus Civic Center to build a “first-class” VIP lounge inside the Civic Center.
The announcement to build the lounge coincidentally comes on the heels of the Civic Center’s parking lot bearing the scars of the area’s high crime and destruction.
The lot was recently destroyed after gangs of car-drifting thugs permanently ruined the parking lot by laying drag and smashing broken glass across the entirety of the acres-wide lot for weeks on-end. The criminal activity has caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damages and continues to go unaddressed by law enforcement and city officials.
In spite of the ongoing destruction and criminal activity taking place on the grounds of the Civic Center, the lounge was conceptualized to provide an “exclusive” experiential option for high-rolling Civic Center guests.
According to a report by WTVM, the lounge is ultimately aimed at bolstering the recent expansion efforts of the Columbus Airport. The lounge is thought to be a way of encouraging clients of both the Airport and the Civic Center to make the Columbus Airport their preferred means of traveling as opposed to traveling through Atlanta.
The WTVM report included words from Columbus Civic Center’s Marketing Manager Kanise Wiggins, who highlighted the co-branding efforts of the lounge’s ideation:
“We believe a partnership with Columbus Airport will enhance Columbus Civic Center through innovative design and co-branding as we collectively attempt to bring Columbus, Georgia, to new heights,” said Wiggins.
However, the lounge may reveal to only be another example of a house of cards being built upon a weak foundation. Time will tell how attendees value the construction of a VIP lounge instead of first solving the increase in high-crime activity at the Civic Center and the surrounding community; a series of violent problems that continue to affect their immediate day-to-day lives.
After all, no one likes to spend their time and money in a gang-ridden wasteland covered in tire tracks and broken glass.
